Remember Me…

“...when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’  In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood.  This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” (i Corinthians 11:24-25)

The last few times I have taken communion, I feel like I can hear the Lord whispering “Remember Me.”  But it’s not the focus-on-His-broken-body kind of remember.  It feels like it’s a way of answering my cries.  Like it’s a way of HIM remembering ME.  Like He’s saying remember what the broken body was for.  Remember why my blood was shed.  Remember what the sacrifice was for.

“Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.  But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4-5)

Remember Me, He says, in your grief.  Remember I’m the God who is close to the broken hearted, Who waits for you and walks you to the other side.

Remember Me, He says, in your sorrows.  Remember I hold all your tears in a bottle, I weep when you weep, I hold you close.

Remember Me, He says, to your afflictions.  Where you feel smitten by Me, rejected and forgotten.  I was rejected FOR you, so you would always be welcome, always be known.

Remember Me, He says, to your deaths and your heartaches.  Remember that I REMOVED the sting of death, I stole the effect of death, I called to the mighty waters of judgment and said this far you may come, but no farther (Job 38:11).

Remember Me, He says, to your sickness and your disease and your unhealable situations and your broken-beyond-repair relationships and your hopeless consequences and your irretrievable actions and your great loss and your wonderings and your wanderings and your desert and your pain and your heartache.    Remember that I am Wonderful for YOU, your Counselor, your Mighty God, your without-end Father, the God of all your comfort, the God of all joy and strength and healing, the God who rebuilds and redeems and makes new and restores... Remember that I AM the GREAT I AM.  I am the way, the truth, the life.  I am everything you have ever hoped and everything you will ever need and beyond anything you could ever ask or imagine.

Remember Me to the places you want Me to remember you.  I remember you, He says.  I see you.  I hear you.  I am with you.  To the ends of the earth, to the depths of the sea, on the path to hell and the steps to eternity.  Never will I leave you, never will I forget you.
“See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.” (Isaiah 49:16)

THAT is what I remembered when I went to the cross. I remembered you.  So remember Me to all the places I came to redeem.  Remember that I am coming.  I am the bright morning star, a reminder that though the night feels long, morning will always come.  I have not forgotten you, and I. Am. Coming.  So remember Me...
